Thin Upper Lip Treatment
in Minnesota
Although conditions like thin upper lip syndrome are genetic, everyone experiences thinning of the lips as they age. You may have noticed that you have a thin upper lip, meaning the height of your upper lip border (the vermilion line) is reduced.
As your body’s natural production of collagen, hyaluronic acid, and elastin decrease with age, this decline leads to the loss of plumpness and causes a thin upper lip.

What Causes the Upper Lip to Thin?
So what causes thin upper lip issues? Genetic factors play a significant role, but for most people, environmental and aging factors are the issue.
One of the leading thin upper lip causes is a decrease in collagen production. Collagen is an essential protein the body naturally produces. It is responsible for skin hydration, elasticity, and plumpness. Production of this protein decreases each year once you reach your 20s, affecting your lips.
Sun exposure is another cause of thinning upper lips. Getting too much sun causes collagen to break down and, over time, leads to thinning lips.
Types of Treatment for Thin Upper Lip
Treatments that we offer include:
Lip Filler Treatment
A thin upper lip filler is an injection that adds volume to your lips. The most common lip fillers are those that contain substances such as hyaluronic acid.
Juvéderm
Of the many lip injections for thin upper lip issues, Juvéderm is our preferred choice. Made with hyaluronic acid, Juvéderm is an FDA-approved filler that helps support and shape your lips.
Botox
Botox, FDA-approved injections that stop the nerve signals that make muscles move, can help lift the upper lip, often referred to as a “lip flip.” When used with Juvéderm fillers, Botox helps shape your upper lip.
Cost of Thin Upper Lip Treatments

Some patients feel a slight pinch or some discomfort, but it is brief. Our estheticians will do their best to ensure you are comfortable throughout the procedure.

A couple of days before the injections, stop taking blood-thinning medications like ibuprofen and aspirin and avoid vitamin E and fish oil supplements. You should also avoid alcohol for at least a day before the injections.

Any pain you experience should go away after 12 to 24 hours. Swelling can take up to a week to fully fade, though most people do not have much swelling after 48 hours.
