Chemical Peels Details

What Are Chemical Peels?

What are chemical peels, and what do chemical peels do? Chemical peels are an advanced type of facial, containing natural enzymes and acids, like salicylic acid, azelaic acid, retinol, and more. They serve to rejuvenate and exfoliate the skin, giving it a cleaner, fresher appearance so you can look your best.

But how do chemical peels work? To reduce the look of wrinkles and fine lines, hyperpigmentation, different types of scarring, and melasma, chemical peels remove the very outermost layer of damaged skin. This process reveals a new layer of skin that is clear and healthy.

What our patients are saying about Chemical Peels in Metropolitan Skin Clinic

Ashley was impressed by the improvement of my skin, even after 3 years of no treatments.
She also was attentive to my comments about my job and the occupational hazards on the skin. I appreciated that attention. So glad she was still here after 3 years. Love her, I can’t wait to see my results in about a month.

Frequently Asked Questions About Chemical Peels

Post-treatment care

We send our patients home with a personalized set of products that we recommend based on the skin condition they were treated for. Someone who comes in for acne won’t get the same products as someone who comes in with wrinkles.

Are treatments painful?

Treatments can be uncomfortable, similar to a bad sunburn. You will likely experience redness, heat, irritation, peeling, and swelling. These symptoms will fade over time. Often patients offset symptoms with over the counter medications like pain relievers, anti-inflammatories or antihistamines.

How to prepare for chemical peels

We suggest that our patients stop using any products that contain Retinol at least a week prior to their appointment. Don’t wear makeup or lotions on the day of the appointment. Otherwise, there is not much preparation prior to having this service done.

Will I see results immediately?

With some peels, you will see results within a couple of weeks— usually a nice glow to your skin. With the deeper peels, it might take up to a month to see the results.

How long does recovery take?

Recovery depends on the peel! The more intense the peel, the longer the recovery time, meaning it can take anywhere between 1 and 6 weeks. Recovery time also depends on your skin type.
