Chemical Peels Are One of the Best Treatments
to Refresh Your Skin

Chemical peels are an advanced type of facial, containing natural enzymes and acids, like salicylic acid, azelaic acid, retinol, and more. They serve to rejuvenate and exfoliate the skin, giving it a cleaner, fresher appearance so you can look your best. In addition to improving acne scarring, sun damage, uneven skin tone, skin discoloration, and more, deep chemical peels are suitable for sensitive skin and produce impressive results. The confusion surrounding this topic is the fact that there are many types of peels such as those using retinoic acid, alpha hydroxy acids, glycolic acid, phenol, azelaic acid, and more.
This is one of those tried-and-true skin rejuvenation treatments that has been around for decades. One of the most important factors to consider is the experience of your esthetician. Rest assured that Metropolitan Skin Clinic in Edina has experts in this area!

How Do Chemical Peels Work?

This procedure is a faster form of exfoliation through acids that target your skin cells. To reduce the look of wrinkles and fine lines, hyperpigmentation, different types of scarring, and melasma, chemical peels remove the very outermost layer of damaged skin. In response, your body works to initiate the healing process following the “injury.” This process reveals a new layer of clear and healthy skin, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles during the procedure. Some deeper chemical peels target other layers of your skin.

Ashley was impressed by the improvement of my skin, even after 3 years of no treatments.
She also was attentive to my comments about my job and the occupational hazards on the skin. I appreciated that attention. So glad she was still here after 3 years. Love her, I can’t wait to see my results in about a month.

Nikki was so careful in applying my peel. She described the process every step of the way. She checked in with through out and all evening long following the peel. She made sure to educate me on the follow up procedures and supplied me with products and information to reduce discomfort. I’m excited to see the final results.

I highly recommend Nikki!

Frequently Asked Questions

How to prepare for chemical peels?

We suggest that our patients stop using any products that contain Retinol at least a week prior to their appointment. Don’t wear makeup or lotions on the day of the appointment. Otherwise, there is not much preparation prior to having this service done.

Are chemical peel treatments painful?

Treatments can be uncomfortable, similar to a bad sunburn. You will likely experience redness, heat, irritation, peeling, and swelling. These symptoms will fade over time. Often patients offset symptoms with over-the-counter medications like pain relievers, anti-inflammatories, or antihistamines.

Will I see results immediately?

With some peels, you will see results within a couple of weeks — usually a nice glow to your skin. With the deeper peels, it might take up to a month to see the results.

How long does recovery take?

Recovery depends on the peel! The more intense the peel, the longer the recovery time, meaning it can take anywhere between 1 and 6 weeks. Recovery time also depends on your skin type.

What are post-treatment instructions for chemical peels?

We send our patients home with a personalized set of products that we recommend based on the skin condition they were treated for. Someone who comes in for acne won’t get the same products as someone who comes in with wrinkles.
