At Metropolitan Skin Clinic, we believe every person requires personalized care that is based on their skin type, lifestyle, and environment. Did you know that 63 percent of women use the wrong skincare? Just because it worked for a friend or the influencer you follow on social media doesn’t always mean that it will be right for you, and that’s ok! At Metropolitan, we are here to help you find the best skincare products and aesthetic services for you and your skin.

Things to Consider in a Personalized Skincare Routine

Creating a personalized skincare routine can be achieved once you’ve determined your skin type. Most people deal with oily, sensitive, or dry skin, but combination skin is just as likely. The type of skin that you have typically influences the products you can add to your personalized routine:

We always suggest using medical-grade skincare because it is richer in active ingredients and backed by science, making it more effective. Our Metropolitan experts are well-versed in all of our skincare products, so we can help determine the best products for you to use.

Procedures for Every Skin Type

As you can see from the graph above, each skin type needs a specific care level of care, as follows:

  • Oily Skin

Oily skin occurs in men and women with enlarged sebaceous glands, causing them to produce more sebum than usual. This can lead to more acne breakouts as dirt and bacteria have more space to settle. Procedures like BBL Forever Clear can reduce sebum activity, and chemical peels trigger collagen production and reduce the pores. The skin can be treated long-term with Clear Control Pads and Clarifying Moisturizer.

  • Dry Skin

Dry skin happens for various reasons, from aging to dehydration or spending too much time outside on a windy day. Procedures like the Platinum HydraFacial® can boost moisture, while the MOXI™ laser can create more collagen and elastin. The Renewal Scrub and Pure Moisture products remove dry skin and restore moisture for a refreshing glow.

  • Sensitive Skin

Sensitive skin flares whenever a harsher routine is applied, so it needs a gentle approach to stay protected. Procedures like the BBL laser are gentle yet powerful enough to strengthen the skin barrier. On the other hand, products like the Soothing Brighten-Up Pads and Calming Moisturizer can reduce redness.

  • Combination Skin

Combination skin is one of the most complex types of skin to address. To treat it, we can use MOXIâ„¢ laser and Haloâ„¢ to restore the skin’s balance. We’ll also apply the Retexturizing Pads to gently nourish every surface type.

Summer Skincare Routine Steps

When creating a personalized routine for summer skin success, it is important to stay consistent. We recommend that every routine should have:

  1. Daily Cleansing

The hot summer sun creates a lot of sweat and excess oil production, which can lead to acne breakouts if left unaddressed. For this reason, it is recommended to cleanse your skin twice daily. You may use something like the Gentle-Foam Cleanser in the morning to rejuvenate the skin and a deeper-action product in the evenings to remove dirt and makeup buildup.

1. Regular Exfoliation

Exfoliation is essential to reducing dead skin cells, keeping everything radiant and smooth. That said, UV rays have the potential to make the skin feel hyper-sensitive, especially if you have a fair complexion. At Metropolitan, we suggest that you aim for one or two treatments per week; however, a consultation with one of our experts will be beneficial to you so that you do not over-exfoliate your skin. Skincare containing different acids like the Daily Brighten Up Pads can deeply cleanse the skin, offering mild exfoliating benefits. For deeper exfoliation, you can try our Renewal Scrub Cleanser or come in for a chemical peel.

2. Hydration

During the summer, you will likely lose moisture because of sweating. We recommend that you give your skin the proper hydration while keeping your skincare products lightweight. Our professionals at Metropolitan suggest products like Pure Hydration moisturizer, which has a gel-like formula that nourishes without feeling heavy and minimizes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

3. Solar Protection

The sun can be very strong during summer, reaching very high levels, especially around midday. The maximum UV level your skin can handle without SPF is two, after which we recommend you take precautions if you are not already. Summertime can bring those levels as high as 10 or more, causing you to burn (especially if you have fair skin). St. James deeply shaded SPF 40 can work for most skin types, and its fortified formula makes it perfect for both women and men with normal-to-dry skin.

4. Specific Issue Treatment

Now that you’ve gone through the general steps, it is time to handle specific skin issues. If your skin is starting to lose its elasticity, then you might want to consider adding Vitamin CEF to your routine. On the other hand, if you are dealing with acne, then dabbing the Acne Spot Treatment one to three times a day can reduce the imperfections.

Every person has different skin and different needs, so we want to reiterate the importance of coming in for a consultation so that we can target your specific needs and goals. With our years of experience, we can help guide your skincare routine, and we’re here to help with any questions or concerns you may have.
